Ready, Set, Party in the Pool

Memorial Day is a few weeks away, and with it, the kick-off to summer on the Cape. As preparations for your party heat up, we have a few tips to take the pressure off so you can be free to have fun.
Open your Pool Now
No one wants to be disappointed or embarrassed by hosting a pool party only to find out the pool isn’t ready. By opening your pool at least two weeks before you want to swim, you can ensure your water is sparkling and balanced and the water heated to your comfort level. You can open your pool yourself, but we recommend hiring a professional. By letting a professional handle your pool opening, you’ll enjoy your pool with less hassle and find that you pool will be running smoothly in time for guests.
Professionals know exactly what chemicals to add and when. They will properly remove your cover, check your equipment such as pumps, hoses, filters and heater as well as insert your ladders and return jets tomake sure everything is working at an optimal level.
If you don’t have an inground pool, there’s still time! If you start the process now, you can be swimming and partying by July. Better yet, you can opt for a Plunge+ pool, the newest trend in luxury pools. Plunge+ pools are precast with superior materials so they provide hassle-free elegance and can be installed in a matter of days once construction begins.
Be Proactive with Safety
Speaking of parties, it’s essential to have safety plan to protect your family and guests. We recommend creating a list of Dos and Don’ts with input from your children. This gives them buy-in and will help even the younger kids be aware of staying safe as well as understanding expectations for themselves and their friends.
We highly recommend you:
• Never, under any circumstances, swim alone, regardless of your age
• Always keep a phone near the pool in case of emergencies
• Know how to recognize and help a swimmer in distress
• Learn CPR
• Ensure that kids are supervised at all times
• Use only plastic or cans for drinks and paper plates. No glass or glass bottles. Drinks should be in plastic or cans … no glass plates, drinking glasses or glass bottles
• Clearly explain if diving is allowed, and if so, point out the deep end and be certain that guests understand no diving in shallow water
• Have life jackets for anyone who isn’t a strong swimmer
• Consider hiring a lifeguard if you’re hosting a party. At the very least, assign an adult who agrees to actively supervise everyone in the water. Sadly, children have drowned in pools when surrounded by adults who all thought someone else was keeping an eye on the kids.
Enjoy Yourself!
You have a beautiful home and swimming pool. You’ve planned everything just so. Your hard work will make your party the talk of the season. Now it’s time to put on your best smile (even if someone arrives early).Relax, mingle, and enjoy.
Happy Memorial Day!
